Other title information: Bibliografinis sąvadas

Annotation: This publication is a bibliographic compendium of Lithuanian sheet music from 1990 to 2015 compiled in chronological order and presented to readers. The difficult period of restored independence, when sheet music publishing underwent fundamental changes, brought chaos to the field of registration. The ISMN Lithuanian agency began to operate only in 1994, and some publishers even after 1994 did not register their publications with the ISMN agency. As a result, there has been a gap in the registration of publications published aborad, which were registered electronically or in a fragmentary manner. The purpose of this bibliography is to collect and systematise all information about publications of Lithuanian sheet music since 1990, published both in Lithuania and abroad, and to describe them according to international standards. Other title information: a radically different worldview is possible

Annotation: Women and the Gift Economy: A Radically Different Worldview is Possible is an attempt to respond to the need for deep and lasting social change in an epoch of dangerous crisis for all humans, cultures, and the planet. Featuring articles by well-known feminist activists and academics, this book points to ways to re-create the connections, which have been severed, between the gift economy, women, and the economies of Indigenous peoples, and to bring forward the gift paradigm as an approach to liberate us from the worldview of the market that is destroying life on the planet. Shifting to a gift paradigm can give us the radically different worldview which will make another, better, world possible.

Contributions to the Foundation of a three-leveled Biosemiotics

Biology / Biosemiotics Umweb publications 9525576019 Available

Annotation: This book opens a new perspective on living nature through the philosophical foundation of biology as an understanding social science. The contributions integrate the pragmatic turn of the theory of science discussion, replacing the solus ipse subject of knowledge of objectivism by the intersubjective - communicative character of thought, experience and research. A three-leveled biosemiotics investigates rule-governed sign-mediated interactions within and between organisms of all organismic kingdoms. This approach underlines the complementarity of syntactic, pragmatic and semantic rules as a precondition for adequately investigating the languagelike structure of the genetic code and the communicative organization of interacting living nature.

Les Universaux en musique

edited by Costin Miereanu | Xavier Hascher

Other title information: their design and meaning

Notes: Original title in German "Der Manch un seine Sachen" (1928), English translation by Andrew Bluhm

Annotation: Discusses the elements of a sign, and looks at pictograms, alphabets, calligraphy, monograms, text type, numerical signs, symbols, and trademarks. This is a compelling study of the nature of signs and how people communicate written by the distinguished typographer Adrian Frutiger; who has illustrated his text with over 2000 line drawings. He reproduces numerous aspects of graphic symbolism from the simplicity of the T-sign to the ornamentation of the Australian aboriginal painting, and comments on the full range of symbols even including modern trademarks and traffic signs. This is the distillation of Frutiger's life's work and compulsory reading for all those interested in graphics, design, art, ornament and communication in general.

Annotation: This comprehensive introduction to social cognition is the first succesfully to integrate the distinct traditions that have grown up on different sides of the Atlantic over the past twenty years. Semiotics and legal theory

Bernard S. Jackson

Social Deborah Charles Publications 0952893819 Available

View details

Annotation: Semiotics and Legal Theory is an exercise in exposition, comparison, criticism, and construction. Jackson takes two very different intellectual traditions - structuralist semiotics as represented by A.J. Greimas and modern (mainly positivist) legal theory as represented by Hart, MacCormick, Dworkin, and Kelsen and by juxtaposing them seeks to clarify and assess their respective semiotic presuppositions, in order to lay some foundations for a semiotically sensitive theory of law. This book is designed for both jurists and semioticians. To facilitate access across the disciplinary divide, Jackson provides an abstract at the head of each chapter, which serves as both a summary and a conclusion to each section.
